Spoiled

Spoiled

We’ll have to be careful not to compare every other beach camp to Twiga – we found it difficult to come up with a reason to move on but in the end there will be other beaches, ri

ght? Yes. And while Twiga was a perfect 9.99, the only reason it doesn’t get a 10 (from me, at least) is that the bird life was unvarying and spotty. No doubt that would change but in fact it was time to move on; at the next beach these Crab Plovers put on a show and apparently birders come from all over to see them. Beautiful birds.

star3smallThe Starfish Garden was a special delight. Yes, I know they are called Sea Stars now, but Starfish Garden has such a nice ring. A sandbar out on the reef is host to hundreds of these alien creatures. We joined our neighbors and their children for a visit to the garden and it was a blast finding different kinds – the adults no less excited than the kids.

Sadly we sstar2smallaid our final goodbye to Reggie – he was our neighbor at JJ’s in Nairobi and we met up again at Twiga. Who knows, we may even meet again one day. That would be a very good day indeed.star5small

I was reading your reply to Cat about the bicycle riding…I remember we saw a guy with a bag of dry cement and a small pig on the back of his bike in Mexico. I think Ed did a painting of the scene. Still can’t stay away from the star fish – sea stars has a nice ring too. Can’t wait to see more. Cat and I were speculation that there are many more photos to see.

Well, yes there are way too many more photos. Some of them don’t crop quite right and of course some are not as interesting as others believe it or not 🙂

    Hi !
Oh boy……I can’t believe all those sea stars all over the soft sandy bottom. It’s incredibly pretty. I loVe your close ups. Such crazy amazing living creatures! The variations are so fun. We definitely have Twiga on our radar now!

Those Plovers with their fancy suit markings are brilliant. Hope you find more exciting birds as you move on.
Marlene n I have both been so busy but finally Monday we get to take a nice beach bike ride. Do many people get around on bikes ?

    Safe travels.

Oh, Cat – it staggers the mind how many people ride bikes and what all they can carry. You’ll see three people, one child, the driver and a 20kilo sack of charcoal on one bike. Particularly in Zambia and Tanzania, bikes are essential. Kenya and Uganda have more motorcycles (bodas) but still many many bikes. We were pleasantly surprised to find the bikes have been upgraded a bit, haven’t seen any wooden bikes this trip… I kid you not.

Alright Ann Colleen – you have outdone yourself this time. This has gone too far. All the photos are over the top. I cannot stop looking at the starfish…it must have been fantastic, other worldly to see so many in one place. Starfish garden…they look like jewels, lace with jewels. What a treat. The pattern on the Box fish was also especially lovely. And the Crab Plovers, their shape, their eyes(!) and that simple black/white pattern, god they are beautiful…Loved seeing you and Jim in some shots, you two look great – yeah, three weeks on the beach doesn’t hurt!
This page of the blog was especially outstanding in every way. I just love it and I will visit it again and again, I want to imprint those images in my mind.

Thanks Marlene – love that you enjoy the blog but I must say sending postcards is nearly as much fun. So glad you insisted on that! What a hoot.
